On the 50th Anniversary of the Transistor

This paper celebrates the 50th anniversary of the invention of the bipolar transistor in late 1947. Combined with the inventions of integration and planar technology, the invention of the transistor marks the beginning of a period of unprecedented growth, the industrialization of electronics. In this paper, a short story will be told with focus on a few of the technological milestones.
