This directory contains my Ph.D. dissertation.  All files (except this one)
are gzip'ed PostScript files.

The file phd-no-figs.ps.gz contains the entire dissertation without figures.
These can be obtained individually (two A5 pages at a time) by ftp'ing the
files fig*.

Figs. 1.15, 1.16, 1.17 and 2.3 do not yet exist as PostScript files.

The following figs. are in color:  1.15, 1.16, 1.17, 2.6, 2.8, 2.9, 2.10, 2.11,
3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, 3.8, 3.9, 3.14, 3.15, 3.16, 3.35 and 3.36.
