Abstract: Ultra-short duty cycle pulses have been shown to be less impacted by self phase modulation and therefore provides an alternative route for achieving high bitrate systems with optical transmission. I will give a review of experiments with the short duty cycle pulses, which we name tedons, and focus on the intra-channel nonlinear effects that they experience during propagation. Explicit expressions are derived for the penalties in practical systems.
