Abstract:We introduce the concept of two-color multistep cascading for vectorial parametric wave mixing in optical media with quadratic (second-order or chi-2) nonlinear response, and present a full classification of the possible wave interaction processes. In particular, we demonstrate that light-guiding-light effects can be realized with quadratic spatial solitons. The effective waveguides are created by two-wave parametric solitons, which properties we describe with the help of the so-called `almost exact' analytical solutions.
