Abstract: We investigate pattern formation in intracavity second harmonic generation, and show the importance of including also a competing parametric process. Through numerical simulations we show that the parametric fields influence the system by depleting the field amplitudes or by changing the pattern types observed. In some cases the parametric fields are even preventing intrinsic bifurcations to occur. We discuss physical relevant parameters where different types of behaviour may be seen, and the corresponding power thresholds will be calculated for an experimental setup.
