MIDIT-seminar 468

at MIDIT, IMM Building 305, room 027

Abstract:This talk will be a general introduction to the physics of Bose-Einstein condensation and its connections with the field of nonlinear optics. We consider the Bose-Einstein condensate in a parabolic trap as a macroscopic quantum oscillator and describe, analytically and numerically, its collective modes - a nonlinear generalisation of the (symmetric and antisymmetric) Hermite-Gauss eigenmodes of a harmonic quantum oscillator.
