Abstract: We present the theory of the chirped solitons in fiber communication systems with periodically repeated in-line devices like dispersion compensating fibers, fiber gratings, phase modulators etc. It is already shown that such solitons will be a key vehicle for the next generation of long haul fiber communication links. The applications of the chirped solitons to the state of the art lightwave communication technologies will be discussed.
