OR : Research
For the Operations Research section it
is important, that the group covers the whole spectrum from the collection
of data and problem analysis in the one end, to the practical implementation
in the other end.
The areas, which the OR - section is focusing on, can be divided according
to the specific application or according to the tools which are used or
developed. Of actual applications one can mention logistics, transport
optimization, vehicle routing or the location of facilities, production and
inventory planning, timetabling and crew scheduling.
Of specific tools one can mention methods for solving continuous and
discrete optimization problems (branch and bound, Lagrange relaxation and
decomposition, sub-gradient optimization, dynamic programming), development
of metaheuristics (simulated annealing, tabu search, genetic algorithms
and neural networks) and the use of parallel computers.
