From September 2012 the thesis must between 30 and 35 ECTS points. If a 35 ECTS points thesis is chosen then 5 ECTS points count as electives. Most students choose a 30 ECTS points thesis.
The MSc thesis gives the students the opportunity to apply the knowledge they have acquired in an independent way on a larger project that concludes with a written report. The thesis should be written individually. However, two students may report and submit a single thesis, where general or describing sections as e.g. the introduction may be jointly written by both students - but all other sections must be written individually. The thesis must be presented orally.
The director of studies for the degree program must approve that the MSc thesis falls within the program's focus area. The director of studies automatically receives this information once the thesis is reported and the student will be directly notified if the topic cannot be approved. The MSc thesis may be undertaken in collaboration with a company.
The student must have completed the courses equivalent to 55 ECTS points before the MSc thesis may be undertaken. It is recommended that the student also has completed the General Competences courses and the Technological Specialization courses.
A MSc thesis agreement is to be concluded between the student and a supervisor. Please see the Study Handbook for the details. The learning objectives are an integrated part of the thesis supervision
