The Statistics Section is involved in the development of new statistical methods and their applications. Statistics is a core research area for society. Data are collected everywhere and the key to transform data to relevant information is statistics. Being both applied and theoretical gives us a strong position for collaboration with industry, hospitals etc. Both methods and applications are characterized by their broad scopes. From a methodological point of view the focus areas are Dynamics (Time Series Analysis and Forecasting, Modeling of Dynamics Stochastic Systems, Stochastic Control Theory, Applied Probability with Stochastic Processes) and Industrial and Applied Statistics (Statistical design and analysis of experiments, Statistical Process Control, Sensometrics and Chemometrics, Environmetrics). Our research is applied within numerous fields including the following: Climatology, Energy, Pharmaceutics, Finance, Food science, Environmental research, Marine biology, Microbiology, Health care, Transport.
Vision
Our vision is to be a leading broad and application oriented statistics group to the benefit of society. This includes being an attractive and preferred collaborator in research projects for which statistical analysis and development of statistical methodology are important.
Mission, incl. goals
To meet the vision
-
we aim at being internationally leading in the area of (scientifically sound) applied statistics
-
we put major focus on collaboration with industrial partners and governmental bodies choosing the right tool for the problem rather than imposing a specialized tool on any problem
-
we aim at increasing the amount of industrial and co-financed Ph.D.students enrolled in our program
