Following the distinction is a scholarship of 60.000 Euro for a stay in Madrid in the spring of 2011. The scholarship is founded by Spanish Banco Santander to strengthen the collaboration between Spanish universities and international top researchers.

The appointment is made because of Lars Kai Hansen’s research in the area of cognitive systems which deals with how people interact with intelligent computer systems such as mobile phones, hearing aids and search engines.

Lars Kai Hansen and his group of researchers have invented new methods that make it easier to search in digital media.
The group has developed the auditory search engines CastSearch, MiRocket and MuZeeker that for example help users find information in podcast, and new music that suits their taste.

Colleagues from other branches of science also enjoy the benefits of the group’s research.
With support from the American National Institute of Health and Lundbeckfonden, the DTU group has just developed an advanced search engine for brain scientists looking for relevant scientific articles and data.

Lars Kai Hansen has been professor at DTU since 2000 and heads the DTU Informatics Section of Cognitive Systems.
His research has been published in 230 scientific articles, and has been cited over 5000 times by other researchers.
