Life Cycle assessment tool for integrated solid waste management (EASEWASTE)
The EASEWASTE application is developed together with DTU-Miljø. Easewaste is designed to be used by consultancies, authorities and researchers for modeling resource use and recovery as well as enviromental emmissions associated with waste management in a life-cycle context.
FishFrame
FishFrame is an international web-based regional database application, which holds all stock assessment and management relevant data collected from the commercial fishery and scientific surveys. The goal of the application was to create a system flexible enough to conform to national standards and at the same time assure consistency of the data across the countries and research institutes. The consistency was of paramount importance because most assessment and management work in Europe are based on data from many countries fishing on the same stock.
The application is both a tool for the individual participants to calculate, estimate and visualise their data, but also to be able to share and compare data with each other in a conform and convenient way. The application is in use by ICES for fisheries stock assesments within the Baltic and North Sea regions.
Pack & Sea
The Pack & Sea software package is an Android mobile phone applet with two applications that can be downloaded for free from Android Market. One applet is to be used on fish auctions. It uses the results of the auctions through a web service and the RFID tag scanning of the fish boxes to hand over and the contractual commitment from seller to the buyer of the fish. The other application is to be used buy the fish exportes and other companies handing over fish boxes throughout Europe. Both applications uses bluetooth communication between an Android mobile phone and a small and simpel RFID tag reader.
MeasureStore
MeasureStore is a multilingual application for the mobile platform. It runs on any windows mobile device with a main purpose of gathering measurements from hand calipers and measure boards. Bluetooth and serial RS-232 communication is used for data interaction and all measurements are transferrerable to a laptop or desktop computer using the associated windows application, MeasureStore Sync Tool.
The application was developed in collaboration with another institute and is currently used on scientifc research vessels to measure and store lengths of fish a long with several fish parameters such as species, sex, and sub sample categories.
Food Spoilage and Safety Predictor (FSSP)
FSSP is a product-oriented software developed to use mathematical models to predict shelf-life and safety for different types of seafood. The freeware is available in 17 different languages.
FSSP was developed in collarboration with the Seafood & Predictive Microbiology (Research group) with its primary focus on seafood products, however some of the predictive models in FSSP are equally useful for other types of food.
The latest version of FSSP (version 3.2) has in 2009 alone been downloaded by over 800 users from over 70 different contries from a number of different inductries and a range of activity areas, such as research, food inspection, production & distribution.
Dietary Information Management System (DIMS)
The Dietary Information Management System is used by DTU-Food for the national surveys for dietary habits and physical activities.
Ship Information System (SIS)
The SIS applications allows for the visualization and analysis of data being collected during research cruises made by the 78m research vessel of DTU, Dana. While out on a cruise, Dana is continuosly collecting various kinds of data i.e. water temperature, salinity, oxygen and algae which is collected within a database onboard.
Incorporated into the SIS sytem is synchronisation tools to synchronise the onboard data with a land based version of the database so that data being collected during a cruise can be analyzed while the process is ongoing. This is enabled by the synchronisation being performed via satelite once an hour while a cruise is ongoing.
A free available version of the SIS data visualisation and analysis tool, called FreeSIS, is available, at www.aqua.dtu.dk/FreeSIS, and incorporates a Google Earth plugin mapping tool to visualise where Dana has travelled and where specific types of activities have been performed. Details of the mapping tool used within the internal version of SIS are outline within the GEO Connexion article Visulaizing in real-time.
Pelagic Information Program (PIP)
PIP is a multilingual data generation and traceability tool for pelagic fishing vessels (species like herring and mackerel captured using trawl or purse seine). PIP is developed together with Eurofish. The main purpose of the application is for retailers/consumers to be able to trace a catch or a single fish back to its origin and obtain general information about the quality of the fish.
There are hardly any incitements for vessels to invest in equipment for traceability, so PIP is a freeware application for the windows platform which provides an interface for storing information about catch date, catch area, catch temperature, and fishing vessel. Besides catch registration the application also exists in a land version where it is possible to plan future fisheries from registered catches and look for alternative catch possibilities from a map overview.
PIP uses XML following the Tracefish standard (www.tracefish.org) for transferring data to shore. The receiver can therefore get and utilize the data if his/her software uses the same Tracefish standard. At the moment only few utilize the standard but work is in progress (www.trace.eu.org) to expand the traceability format and incorporate more food categories.
Vessel Distributed Exchange System (VDEC)
VDEC is a supply chain management system especially designed for traceability in the fishing industry. It is designed to be used onboard all dansih fishing vessels longer than 12 meter. VDEC is synchonised with respect to fishery information with the e-log system from the danish argifish agency and VDEC communicate catch data to databases of traceability in land.
Babelfish
Babelfish is a software application that can be used offline or online together with a database and it is used for biological survey data with repect to shellfish and fish. It is used for harbour sampling, samling on research vessels and onboard commercial vessels. Babelfish is an infrastructure application on DTU-Aqua.
